Deepfakes

It was always going to be porn that first exposed this tech in all it's glory, but imagine the applications going forward.

We are very, very close to no longer being able to trust any kind of moving image presented to us.

This is going to get insanely unreal.

Not for the squeamish, prurient or children - https://www.reddit.com/r/deepfakes/

Philip K. Dick could only sit back and laugh at the world of today.

But - is it all bad?

If we reach a point where we can no longer believe - as an absolute - the moving or static images presented to us on TV or in any media - where does that leave us standing?

We can convince ourselves to believe that which suits our biases - the video of the 'other sides' political candidate molesting children - that makes our feelings of righteousness and anger justified - but ultimately, the rot of doubt has little choice but to creep in.

Perhaps this is one of - amongst many - unfolding events that may serve to force self-reflection about what really matters.

Hope has been severely corrupted of late. Yet it remains.
